About the event
Our guest speaker for this webinar is Professor Peter Jones, Professor of Transport and Sustainable Development at University College, London, England. He is a global subject-matter expert and we are delighted to have him as a member of the Urban Robotics Foundation. His talk will focus on the challenges and opportunities of introducing public-area mobile robots (PMRs) onto streets, sidewalks and other public spaces.
Among his work responsibilities, Prof. Jones is a member of the City of London Transport Strategy Board and the Dubai Council for Future Transportation; and formerly, the South-East Wales Transport Commission, the Hong Kong ERP Advisory Panel and the CIHT Urban Design Panel. He was Scientific Co-ordinator for two EU funded three-year projects: the ‘CREATE’ project on changing trends in urban mobility and future city challenges, and ‘MORE’, on optimum design and operation of road-space on main urban roads.
Prof. Jones is also a work package lead on the EU SUMP-PLUS project, looking at transitions to sustainable urban mobility and at enhanced cross-sector links. He also plays a leading role in two ESRC projects, on Sustainable Urban Mobility transitions on Africa, and governance issues around the introduction of automated vehicles in the UK. He advises the European Commission and a number of major cities and national governments around the world, and was awarded an OBE for services to national transport policy, in January 2017.
