COORDINATING ROBOTICS POLICY ACROSS MUNICIPALITIES
The Urban Robotics Foundation brings together accessibility, logistics, municipal, planning, and robotics experts to create international standards, guidelines, and certification methods to ensure that robotic passenger and goods systems are safe, managed, and contribute to improved livability for cities and their people.
Currently, we are developing the ISO 4448 series, a standard for the operation of automated motor vehicles (robotaxis) at the curbside and Public Mobile Robots (PMRs) – such as delivery robots – within pedestrianized spaces.
WHAT WE DO
STANDARDIZATION
We are drafting an international standard for public mobile robots (PMRs) in pedestrianized urban spaces. This ISO standard provides language and procedures for coordination between municipal authorities and passenger, logistics and maintenance operators.
INCLUSION
Vulnerable users must be considered first if we are to manage PMRs in pedestrianized spaces. The most important focus throughout the coming decade is universal accessibility. If we get that right, we can get the rest right. URF looks at everything through an accessibility lens.
COORDINATION
We bring together municipal, accessibility, planning, logistics and robotics experts to create standards, guidelines, and certification methods to ensure that robotic passenger and goods systems are creating value for cities and their people.
EDUCATION
We advise our members and educate their staff regarding standards activities, legislative and regulatory developments, shared experiences of other members, and matters relating to safety, behaviour, and orchestration systems that permit cities to manage scale effectively.
